"We Will Never Forget" In Memoriam Cake

A special rendition of the 911 Firefighter Memorial was designed out of cake by Chef Benny Rivera and was an award winning piece at the NY Cake Show in 2016. Sculpted out of cake, hand painted and covered with fondant and modeling chocolate, it was simply incredible how this piece was able to emit such emotion in edible mediums. Carrying the great remembrance and unforgettable feelings, the firefighter gives us the chance to remember and reflect on the service men and women of the 911 tragedy that we will never forget and always remember.

Chef Benny Rivera said, "As some of you know, I was one of the people caught in the chaotic tragedy we now know as 9/11 in NYC. That event will forever live with me, especially being in the rubble and uncertainty downtown. As horrible as it was, there was an image I will never forget and it captured people doing their best to rescue and save others, despite their own personal safety. With the theme being "New York City" at The NY Cake Show, I wanted to pay tribute to those heroes who put their life at risk for us. Thank you so much for your bravery, dedication and service. Years later it still means just as much. And for those of you wondering, so far this has been the most meaningful piece I ever created - thanks to the @nycakeshow for pushing me to create it."
